About us
The Gatwick Can Be Quieter group was created to campaign for Gatwick to be quieter and to inform local residents, authorities and companies using Gatwick about how this can be done.

Our Goals are straightforward and realistic

  1. — A reduction and eventual ban on night-flying at Gatwick
  2. — For aircraft using Gatwick to be better routed on approach and departure
  3. — For aircraft using Gatwick to use a steeper angle of descent and thus be higher for longer
  4. — For aircraft using Gatwick to be on average quieter by eliminating older, noisier planes

We communicate in the Gatwick Airport area

  1. — Keeping local residents informed about what is happening
  2. — Making local people aware of what can be achieved
  3. — Being an information reference point for local residents
  4. — Telling people in plain language how it is – creating clarity in a highly complex arena

We strive for best practice

  1. — Seeking out and recognising the successes of airlines, airports and organisations who are actively reducing the harmful effects of aircraft noise
  2. — Lobbying MPs and others who can help to reduce noise around Gatwick
  3. — Encouraging Gatwick Airport Limited, Global Investment Partners, airlines and others to adopt demonstrable best practices at Gatwick

We work with other groups and on National issues

  1. — Restructuring of the governing & regulatory bodies (e.g. DfT, DEFRA & CAA)
  2. — Government policy on aviation, noise & the environment
  3. — Promoting trains not planes for domestic travel

Our organisation

  1. — We have active members around a small steering group
  2. — We run a website and communication system using email and Twitter
  3. — We maintain a register of supporters – concerned individuals whose quality of life is threatened
  4. — We are entirely voluntary and have no membership fees
